Veterans Affairs Canada: Proudly Serving Canada's Veteran Community
  Issue #4, Summer 2002

Seeking former St. John Ambulance Volunteers

During the Second World War and the Korean War, more than 230 young women volunteered to go overseas with St. John Ambulance to serve as Volunteer Aid Detachment Personnel. Changes to legislation may now entitle these women to be eligible for certain benefits from Veterans Affairs Canada. The search for these volunteers has been complicated by the fact that many of the women were single and served under their maiden name. If you know someone who served overseas as a St. John Ambulance volunteer, please have her contact St. John Ambulance at (613) 236-7461, extension 279.
