Continuing Care Study Announced
The Minister of Veterans Affairs and the Minister of the Seniors Secretariat of the Government of Ontario have announced they will partner on an important research study in continuing care. The project will be led by Veterans Affairs Canada. It will compare the outcomes and costs of providing veterans with home care, supportive housing and residential care.
Three groups of veterans who live in Ontario will be compared. They are:
clients of Veterans Affairs Canada who live at home and receive services through our Department's national home care program called the Veterans Independence Program (VIP);
clients in assisted living settings who receive VIP; and
clients in residential long-term care facilities.
The study will look at:
- veterans' satisfaction with the care they receive;
- veterans' quality of life;
- the cost of providing the different types of supportive living services;
- the role that home support services play in keeping veterans and seniors in the community; and
- factors that lead veterans to need residential care.
