CHRONOS Model Forecasts
CHRONOS (Canadian Hemispheric and Regional Ozone and NOx System) is a comprehensive air quality model containing a full description of atmospheric chemistry and meteorological processes. The model uses the output of the operational atmospheric model for the advection/diffusion part of the model and uses the emission inventory to assess the source of tropospheric ozone precursors. The model is run once a day over North America as an experimental tool and is used to improve services to Canadians. In 2001, the model coverage was expanded to cover all of Canada.
The outputs over the next 48 hours are shown below for tropospheric ozone at altitudes 10 metres, 50 metres and 500 metres, for PM 2.5 and PM10 at 10 metres. Forecast for PM2.5, PM10, tropospheric ozone at 10 and 500 metres can be viewed simultaneously on 4-panel maps.
FQ's for ozone are available for Atlantic, Québec, Ontario, Prairie & Northern and Pacific & Yukon regions.
