For many decades, the Workplace Information Directorate has been gathering, analysing and disseminating information on collective bargaining in Canada

Our database of collective agreements provides information on the evolution of specific provisions and on trends in negotiated working conditions and benefits in current collective agreements.

The following is an overview of analysed provisions:

  • Rights of Parties: includes employer and employee rights as well as union security clauses. 
  • Organization of Work: encompasses clauses related to the distribution of work including job rotation, work sharing and semi-autonomous work groups. Also included are clauses related to technological change.
  • Labour Relations: refers essentially to clauses related to the grievance procedure as well as the presence of joint committees that deal with questions such as contracting-out, labour relations, working conditions, the work environment and technological changes.
  • Education, Training and Development: included under this heading are iniatives such as financial assistance, leave to attend training, reimbursement of tuition fees, training funds and apprenticeship programs. 
  • Conditions of Work:includes clauses which deal with    work schedules, overtime, job security, termination of employment and part-time work. Also included are clauses related to work-family balance, health and welfare benefits, flexible insurance plans, progressive retirement and pre-retirement leave.
