ABOUT US

We promote the Canadian interest and fulfill the obligations of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in faithfully implementing Canada's Access to Information Act and Privacy Act.

The Departmental Coordinator of Access to Information and Privacy is accountable for the development, coordination and implementation of effective policies, guidelines, systems and procedures to enable appropriate processing of requests under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act, and proper disclosure of information.

HOW TO SUBMIT A REQUEST

While request forms exist for the submission of both access to information and privacy requests, using these forms is not essential. Usually, a straightforward letter clearly explaining what records you seek is sufficient. 

Access to information requests must be accompanied by a $5.00 application fee, through a cheque or money order made payable to the Receiver General for Canada. We also accept any major credit cards.  

Privacy requests do not require any fees but we do ask for an original signature.
