The Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization (CAIS) Program
UPDATE - STATUS OF CAIS PROGRAM CHANGES
Federal, provincial and territorial ministers of agriculture have
agreed to eliminate the CAIS deposit and replace it with a fee.
Officials are currently working to put the necessary authorities
in place to make this change. Producers participating in CAIS will
receive a letter with details when the fee is officially in place.
In the meantime, producers with money in their CAIS accounts can
withdraw all of their funds now. In provinces where the federal
government delivers the program, this can be done by calling the
CAIS toll free line at 1-866-367-8506. In Alberta, Ontario, Quebec
and Prince Edward Island, producers must contact their provincial
CAIS administration.
No deposit is required for participating in the 2003, 2004 and
2005 CAIS program and producers will not have to pay a fee for
participating in these program years either.
Further updates on the status of program changes will be posted
on the CAIS website and sent to all email subscribers.
The Canadian Agricultural Income
Stabilization
(CAIS) program
integrates stabilization and disaster protection into a single
program, helping producers protect their farming operations from
both small and large drops in income. The CAIS program is a whole-farm
program available to eligible farmers regardless of the commodities
they produce.
This Web site outlines how the CAIS program works.
The CAIS program is delivered in British Columbia, Saskatchewan,
Manitoba, New
Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador by a federal
administration.
In Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and Prince Edward Island, the
CAIS program is delivered provincially.
