Sending a tax return

There are several ways to file or send your tax return:

By Internet

NETFILE is a fast, easy and secure service that allows you to send your tax return directly to us using the Internet. Internet-filed tax returns must be prepared using one of the commercial tax preparation software packages or Web applications certified by us to meet our system requirements.

EFILE is an automated system that lets registered electronic filing service providers send your tax return to us electronically. To use this service, you take your documents to a tax preparation service provider who will prepare your electronic return and send it to us using EFILE.

By phone

TELEFILE is a fast and easy service that allows you to file your tax return by phone. If you complete a paper tax return, you may be able to file it by phone for free. All you need to use the service is a touch-tone phone, your social insurance number (SIN), your personalized access code, and your completed tax return.

To find out if you can use this service, visit our TELEFILE page or call
1-800-959-8281. This service will be available from February 13 to June 30, 2006.

If a disability prevents you from using a touch-tone phone pad for TELEFILE, call 1-800-714-7257 and we will help you. This service will also be available from February 13 to June 30, 2006.

By mail

You can mail a paper tax return to the CRA tax centre serving your region using the envelope included in your tax package. Use your mail-in label if you have one, and make note of the tax centre address for future reference.
