Reviews and Audits
conducted by HRDC's Internal Audit Bureau
FACT SHEET
Final Report: Audit of TAGS Grants and Contributions
(Project no. 407/98, April 1999)
Audits and reviews are ongoing management tools used by HRDC to assess how it can improve the effectiveness of its activities and get better results.
- The audit of TAGS was conducted by HRDC following a January 1998 request by the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans.
- The audit's objective was to provide assurance that projects, funded under various labour market adjustments options of the Atlantic Groundfish Strategy, met program criteria, were properly managed, controlled and monitored and that the grants and contributions were used for their intended purpose.
- A draft report of findings of the TAGS audit was presented to HRDC's Audit and Evaluation Committee in October 1998. The report was finalized and released in April 1999; it was used by the Auditor General in preparing Chapter 7 of his April 1999 report.
- This material has been previously publicly released.
Management Response
- HRDC listened to the Auditor General's 1997 TAGS audit recommendations when it designed the successor program, the Fisheries Restructuring Adjustment Measures. The Auditor General recognized this in Chapter 8 of his April 1999 report.
