In December 2004, Canada and Brazil renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation in the area of labour and employment. In effect for three years, the MOU is to be implemented through a program of tripartite cooperative activities taking place alternately in each country. The agreement covers the following key areas: industrial relations, labour administration, occupational safety and health, workers compensation systems, equity in the workplace, labour market and workplace information, and the creation of decent work in small and medium enterprises.

The MOU will provide opportunities for Canada and Brazil to learn about each other’s legislation, services and programs to workers and employers, compare best practices and share lessons learned with other countries in the hemisphere.
