Care for the Caregiver

A Manual for Implementing Workshops

A Word About the 'Care for the Caregiver' Manual

This Manual was originally prepared by Mount Saint Vincent University's Nova Scotia Centre on Aging for Veterans Affairs Canada in 1993 and revised in 2002.

To enable wide distribution of this excellent resource, Veterans Affairs Canada slightly modified the Manual for the Internet. Because of copyright law, the readings recommended by the authors cannot be provide and since many are not available electronically, suggestions and links have been added for similar articles that can be found on-line.

Videos were prepared as part of the Mount Saint Vincent package and references to them are not included in this version of the Manual. Facilitators are encouraged to contact local libraries or community organizations to find similar resources. The National Film Board has some excellent videos about caregiving available for loan, including Labour of Love: 5 Stories of Caregiving, which was prepared with the assistance of Veterans Affairs Canada.

Facilitators may wish to prepare overheads to support their presentations. For this reason, reference to overheads and projectors are included as options in the Materials lists for each Workshop.

While the advice and information in this book is believed to be true and accurate at the date of publication, neither the author nor the publisher can accept any legal responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions.
