Learning is the key to success at every stage of life. Education is among the best investments for the future. Over 70% of all new jobs now depend on some form of education after high school.
The Government of Canada believes in the value of education as an investment for the future. To help Canadians save for full- or part-time study after high school the government has established Registered Education Savings Plans (RESPs).
When you open an RESP, your money will grow, tax-free, until it is needed for education or you decide to close your plan. Even better, because the Government of Canada believes so strongly in the value of education, it will increase the amount you put aside for a child's education with
- a Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG) that is added to the money you put into an RESP - recent changes have increased grant rates for the children of modest and middle-income families; and
- a Canada Learning Bond (CLB), an additional grant worth up to $2,000 to help modest-income families start saving for the education after high school of children born after December 31, 2003.
