PARADIS - TO SPEAK IN MONTREAL ABOUT AFRICA

May 3, 2002 No. 65

Media representatives are advised that Denis Paradis, Secretary of State (Latin America and Africa) (Francophonie) will deliver a speech on May 4, 2002, at the "Canada in Africa: A New Partnership" conference in Montreal. This event will provide an opportunity for both Canadians and Africans who are committed to the development of Africa to discuss the New Partnership for Africa's Development, a plan developed by African leaders to lift the continent out of poverty.

Mr. Paradis, who accompanied Prime Minister Chrétien to Africa last month to consult with Africans on a G8 Africa Action Plan, will talk about his visit. The trip allowed Mr. Paradis to meet with representatives of civil society, business and government, and visit Canadian aid projects in order to gain a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges for the continent.

Date: Saturday, May 4, 2002

Time: 12 p.m.

Location: Marriott Château Champlain

1050 de la Gauchetiere Street
