GRAHAM - NATO MEETING IN ICELAND

May 13, 2002 No. 67

Media representatives are advised that Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham will travel to Reykjavik, Iceland, from May 14 to15, 2002, to attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

The NATO Foreign Ministers are slated to discuss approving the new NATO-Russia Council and defining ways to meet the new security challenges of the 21st century. This ministerial meeting is a critical step leading up to the Prague Leaders' Summit, to be held November 21 and 22, during which the Allies are expected to invite new members to join NATO.

In addition to taking part in two days of NATO Ministerial working sessions, Minister Graham will also attend several bilateral meetings, including one with Iceland's Foreign Minister Halldor Asgrimsson. Mr. Graham will also take part in the official opening of the new Canadian Embassy in Reykjavik.
