AXWORTHY TO VISIT MINNEAPOLIS AND CHICAGO
Foreign Affairs Minister Lloyd Axworthy announced today that he will travel to
Minneapolis and Chicago February 13-14 for meetings with foreign policy and key
business groups.
"We place great importance on our relations with the United States," said Mr.
Axworthy. "We work closely together in fostering prosperity, political stability
and social development in this hemisphere and around the world. I am pleased to
have this opportunity to share my views on our common aims."
Mr. Axworthy will speak about Canada-U.S. economic and political relations on
February 13 in Minneapolis at a lunch co-sponsored by the
Minnesota International Center and the Canada-Minnesota Business Council.
In Chicago on February 14, he will deliver an address on similar themes to the
Chicago Council on Foreign Relations. In addition, he will meet Chicago business
leaders and attend a meeting of the Midwest Forum on U.S.-Canada Relations.
During his trip, Mr. Axworthy will meet with senior business executives to discuss
ways to foster trade between Canada and the U.S. midwest. As well, he will
officially present the first instalment of Canada's international treaties to the
Library of International Relations at the Illinois Institute of Technology's
Chicago-Kent College of Law. The Library is collecting international treaties
from many countries and making them available on an electronic database for
interested readers around the world.
