EGGLETON AWARDS MINISTER FOR
INTERNATIONAL TRADE CHALLENGE CUP
TO WILFRID LAURIER UNIVERSITY
The Honourable Art Eggleton, Minister for International Trade, today presented the
Minister for International Trade Challenge Cup to the members of a team of
graduate business students from Wilfrid Laurier University of Waterloo, Ontario.
Wilfrid Laurier University won the Minister's Cup as the top Canadian team in the
annual Dalhousie University International Business Case Competition. Members of
the winning Canadian team are Marianne Bernardo, Susana Lopez, Gustavo Scaiano,
Gary Trasher and Kelly Young. The team faculty advisors are Steven Preece and
Detlev Nitsch. The University of Vermont received the international Maritime Tel &
Tel Trophy as the overall winner of the competition.
"Dalhousie has again done an outstanding job organizing the competition. The
Challenge Cup recognizes the talents of Canadian students in international
business and helps prepare them for the challenges they will face in the global
arena," said
Mr. Eggleton. "I congratulate the Wilfrid Laurier team on a winning effort against
competitors from around the world."
This unique competition is conducted via fax and teleconferencing and draws on
real international business situations. The competition was established in 1987 by
graduate students at Dalhousie University with sponsorship by the Maritime
Telegraph and Telephone Company.
This year, 17 universities participated in the competition including teams from
Finland, England, Scotland, Mexico, Brazil, the United States and Canada. The five
finalists were Dalhousie University, Halifax; Memorial University, Newfoundland;
Boston College, Boston; Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo; and the University
of Vermont, Vermont.
