T4 filing deadline

Employers are reminded that they are required to provide T4 slips to their employees and their information return to Revenue Canada by March 1, 1999.

Those filing information returns may not be able to meet the March 1 deadline because of extraordinary circumstances, such as an inability to get the appropriate forms. In this case, they must provide the information as soon as possible, and simply attach a note with their information returns.

Revenue Canada will not penalize filers for situations beyond their control. The Department will be particularly vigilant in ensuring that the fairness provisions of the Income Tax Act are applied.
