Revenue Canada issues October Canada Child Tax Benefit payments

Ottawa, October 20, 1999... The October Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB) payments, which include an enhancement to the National Child Benefit Supplement that began in July, should reach recipients by October 20, 1999. Revenue Canada expects to issue almost $500 million in CCTB payments to more than 2.7 million million recipients across Canada this month.

Clients can have these payments deposited directly into their accounts at their financial institutions. To take advantage of this option, clients have to complete Form T1-DD, Direct Deposit Request, which they can get at their tax services office or tax centre. Both spouses have to file a tax return to receive CCTB payments.

A new territorial child benefit program is also being launched this month. Payments for the Yukon Child Benefit (YCB) will be included for the first time with the October CCTB payments. The YCB, a tax-free monthly payment for low- and modest-income Yukon families with children under 18, is the Yukon's newest reinvestment under the National Child Benefit initiative. The October payment includes all Yukon child benefits to which recipients would have been entitled since July.

Payments for the following provincial and territorial child benefit programs administered by Revenue Canada will also be issued:

  • BC Family Bonus
  • New Brunswick Child Tax Benefit
  • Newfoundland and Labrador Child Benefit
  • Northwest Territories Child Benefit
  • Nunavut Child Benefit
  • Nova Scotia Child Benefit
  • Saskatchewan Child Benefit

Entitlements under these programs are combined each month with the Canada Child Tax Benefit into a single payment.

Clients who are expecting a benefit payment and have not received it by October 27 should contact Revenue Canada's CCTB enquiry service at the following numbers:
