CCRA employee receives award for saving the government $300,000

Vancouver, June 18, 2003... The Public Service of Canada recently awarded a local Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) employee the Public Service Award of Excellence for saving CCRA $300,000. This is one of the most prestigious awards in the Public Service of Canada.

Tim Philps, the Assistant Director of Finance for CCRA, received the award at a ceremony held in Ottawa on June 16, 2003. The Award of Excellence is presented to individuals and teams within the federal public service to recognize their exceptional performance. The Public Service recognized Mr. Philps for a simple, but innovative idea that resulted in a savings of more than $300,000 in the Pacific Region in its first year. The results were so impressive that his idea is now being implemented nationally at CCRA under the name WEBRO, with annual savings expected to reach nearly $1 million.

"The Public Service Award of Excellence celebrates the committed and innovative people who flourish within the federal government," said Barbara Fulton, CCRA's Assistant Commissioner for the Pacific Region. "Tim Philps saw an opportunity to save the taxpayers of Canada a significant amount of money. Despite the challenges he faced along the way, he persevered, and his dream became a reality. We are very proud of Tim and his achievement," she added.
