Revenue Minister Caplan announces appointment to the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency Board of Management

Ottawa, September 22, 2003... Elinor Caplan, Minister of National Revenue, today announced the appointment of Dr. Howard Leeson to the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency Board of Management. Dr. Leeson, Department Head and Professor of Political Science at the University of Regina, was nominated by the Province of Saskatchewan.

While the Minister of National Revenue retains full accountability to Parliament and to Canadian citizens for all CCRA activities, the Board of Management is responsible for overseeing the organization and administration of the Agency and the management of its resources.

"The Board of Management is a vital part of the Agency," said Minister Caplan. "It brings the best of private sector practices to the CCRA."

The Board comprises 15 members, 11 of whom are nominated by the provinces and territories and appointed by Governor in Council.
