Revenue Canada issues April Goods and Service Tax (GST) credit payments

OTTAWA, April 9, 1998... Beginning today, Revenue Canada will send out the April goods and services tax (GST) credit payments. Clients, who have their GST credit payments deposited directly into their accounts at their financial institutions, can expect them on the day they are issued.

Individuals who receive their GST credit payments by mail can expect to receive them within 10 working days. If they have not yet received their payments by April 27, they should contact Revenue Canada's refund enquiry service. This service is available from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. The number is listed under "Revenue Canada" in the Government of Canada section of the telephone book.

This is the second payment of the GST credit for 1998. To receive GST credit payments, individuals must file their income tax returns and complete the goods and services tax (GST) credit application.

Revenue Canada expects to issue GST credit payments totaling $680,661,767 to 8,285,610 taxpayers across Canada this quarter.

General information regarding the GST credit can be obtained through the Department's automated Tax Information Phone Service (T.I.P.S.). This service is available from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on weekdays, and during the day on weekends.
