Revenue Minister Cauchon announces appointments to the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency Board of Management

Ottawa, March 15, 2001... The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of National Revenue and Secretary of State responsible for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced the appointment of Mr. William Grant Hinchey and the reappointment of Mr. John Penner to the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency Board of Management, both for a term of three years.

The Board of Management is part of a unique governance structure which differs from that of other government departments, Crown corporations, and agencies. While the Minister of National Revenue retains full accountability to Parliament and Canadian citizens for all CCRA activities, the Board of Management is responsible for overseeing the organization and administration of the Agency and the management of its resources, services, property, personnel and contracts.

"The Board of Management has had a significant impact on a number of areas in the CCRA in just over a year of operation," said Mr. Cauchon. "The Board has established new human resource, administrative, and planning policies that are unique to the CCRA and to our way of doing business."

The Board comprises 15 members, 11 of whom are nominated by the provinces and territories and appointed by Order in Council. Mr. Hinchey was nominated by the Northwest Territories and Mr. Penner by the Province of Saskatchewan.
