Kilometres of text, half a million images, thousands of films and videos – and through them, the opportunity to discover all the peoples of this place. Their personal lives, politics, social activities, military actions, and their exploration and exploitation of our natural resources, are all documented in the Archives.

Diaries, maps, plans, photographs, government records, family history collections, business records and films let researchers explore the diversity of our culture and the breadth of our Newfoundland and Labrador history. Researching your family? Writing an academic paper, a publication, a web site, a play or a movie? Developing school curriculum? Preparing a court case? Looking for photographs for an exhibition or to decorate the walls of a new restaurant? Or seeking inspiration for your art? We’d be pleased to help you find what you’re looking for in the largest archival collection in the province.

There are outstanding facilities for our irreplaceable collections and excellent services for our clients in comfortable surroundings, with breathtaking views of St. John’s harbour.
