What You Can Do

At Home
Home Sweet Sustainable Home

A homeFrom the familiar walls of your favourite room to the comfy chair you enjoy, your home is your palace. Chances are you use a lot of energy for heating and cooling your place, running appliances, heating water, and lighting the rooms. Space heating uses the largest amount of energy of all these activities. Anything you can do to reduce your home heating will help reduce your GHG emissions and your monthly bills.

Reader's Tip

If the temperature outside is freezing, take a plastic container, fill with water, and place it outside to freeze (leave room for expansion). Once frozen, place it in your refrigerator and enjoy the benefit of free cooling. This reader says "I've noticed a marked difference in my energy bill and the amount of time my fridge is on."
