Justice Partnership and Innovation Fund

Overview

The Department of Justice manages the Justice Partnership and Innovation Fund, which supports activities that respond effectively to the changing conditions effecting Canadian justice policy. Whether it is promoting or supporting newly reformed justice systems or improving the delivery of justice services, the Fund allows the Department to develop and test these approaches in collaboration with organizations, other levels of government and individuals whose technical expertise is valued.

Objectives

  • To increase the capacity of departmental partners to develop innovative solutions to emerging justice related issues;
  • To develop a more informed and engaged public and legal community with regards to the law and the legal system;
  • To contribute to policy development in the Department as it serves a changing society.

Activities

Some of the activities that may be supported include:

  • Workshops, conferences, symposiums;
  • Training sessions;
  • Pilot, demonstration and research projects;
  • Public legal education and information projects.

Who is eligible?

  • National, provincial, municipal, regional, Aboriginal, community or professional not-for-profit organizations;
  • Provincial, territorial, regional and municipal governments;
  • Canadian institutions/boards of education;
  • International organizations;
  • Bands, tribal councils, self-governing First Nations and Inuit;
  • Individuals.

How to Apply

The Department has developed a Funding Guide that helps you prepare an application for funding. The guide provides you with eligibility criteria, information about the application process, an application form, and a glossary of terms.

Before applying to the Justice Partnership and Innovation Fund, you need to ensure that your project links to at least one of the objectives of the Fund and that information regarding the demonstrated capacity to meet project objectives and financial requirements is included. Departmental priorities may also be taken into consideration during the assessment of your project.
