The Department participates in meetings with its provincial and territorial counterparts to identify criminal justice and national security issues that concern all Canadians. Minister's Meeting Once a year, the federal, provincial and territorial Ministers responsible for criminal justice hold a national meeting, to discuss, review and establish policies and programs for the justice system in Canada. The meeting is co-chaired by the federal Minister of Justice, the federal Solicitor General, and one provincial co-chair. Deputy Ministers’ Meetings The federal, provincial and territorial deputy ministers responsible for justice and law enforcement meet twice a year to discuss policies, programs and legislation. Coordinating Committee of Senior Officials - Criminal Justice This committee includes officials from Justice Canada and Solicitor General Canada, as well as provincial and territorial departments with criminal justice responsibilities. Senior officials review federal-provincial-territorial issues of common interest as they relate to criminal justice, and identify issues for discussion among Ministers and Deputy Ministers. Benefit to Canadians The meetings identify issues and solutions pertaining to criminal
justice and national security and respond to the Department's role of
protecting Canadians and helping to maintain a peaceful and safe
society. |
