The National Research Council is planning to update the information provided in the National Housing Code of Canada 1998 and Illustrated Guide.  We are committed to providing this important supporting explanatory guide and illustrations in a format that will be most useful to designers, builders, Code officials and others who refer to this document. In order to do this, we would like your input on the use you make of this publication. [ Privacy notice ]

How often do you use the National Housing Code of Canada 1998 and Illustrated Guide?
Never      Rarely      Sometimes      Frequently

Did you purchase the National Housing Code of Canada 1998 and Illustrated Guide for a specific project (building a home, renovations to a home, etc.), or did you purchase it for ongoing work?

Specific project      Ongoing work

The National Housing Code of Canada 1998 and Illustrated Guide is essentially divided into two parts: the Housing Code and the Illustrated Guide.
How often do you use the Housing Code part of the document?
Never      Rarely      Sometimes      Frequently

How often do you use the Illustrated Guide part of the document?
Never      Rarely      Sometimes      Frequently

The chapters of the National Housing Code of Canada 1998 and Illustrated Guide are currently sequenced to correspond closely to the way that housing is built, or in other words in "Construction order."
Another way to organize the document would be to have the chapters sequenced in "Code order," that is in the same order as Part 9 in the National Building Code of Canada, i.e. Sections 9.1., 9.2., 9.3., etc. to 9.35. Do you have a preference between the two?

Construction order      Code order

The National Research Council Canada also publishes the User's Guide – NBC 1995: Housing and Small Buildings (Part 9), which provides supplementary information to better understand the requirements of Part 9. This document deals with small buildings in addition to houses.
Do you use the User's Guide – NBC 1995: Housing and Small Buildings (Part 9) ?

Never      Rarely      Sometimes      Frequently

Three options have been identified for updating the next edition of the National Housing Code of Canada and Illustrated Guide:

  1. The first would be to simply update the information in the document and continue publishing it in "Construction order."
  2. The second option would be to update the information in the document, but publish it in "Code order."
  3. A third option would be to take out the Housing Code part of the document altogether and then to update the Illustrated Guide and combine it with an updated version of the Part 9 User's Guide.

Which option do you prefer?
