MISSION STATEMENT

The Edmonton Police Commission is committed to working with the citizens of Edmonton and the Edmonton Police Service to provide the community with a safe environment.


POLICING PHILOSOPHY AND GUIDING PRINCIPLES

The Edmonton Police Commission:

a) is committed to community-based policing and partnering with the community as an effective and efficient means of providing safety for our community;
b) is committed to being accountable to the citizens of Edmonton;
c) is committed to supporting efforts aimed at crime prevention and early intervention;
d) is committed to a continuing process of skill development and awareness of community policing issues;
e) is committed to accessibility to the public;
f) is committed to hearing community concerns about policing issues;
g) is committed to liasing with stakeholders who have an interest in policing issues in our community;
h) is committed to balancing public accountability and police independence;
i) is committed to serving as a buffer between the community, the Edmonton Police Service and Edmonton City Council;
j) is committed to ensuring that Edmonton has an effective and efficient police service;
k) is committed to officer safety;
l) is committed to setting broad based policies for the Edmonton Police Service;
m) is committed to informed decision making;
n) is committed to ensuring adequate resources are available for policing in our community;
o) is committed to adherence to the principles of natural justice and fairness;
p) is committed to providing policing services that are based on sound ethical principles including equality and fairness, free from racism, bias, discrimination and harassment; and
