Description of Austrian Regulations on Genetic Engineering

The Austrian Gene Technology Act has entered into force in January 1995 and has been amended in 1998, in 2002 and in 2004. It regulates the main aspects of biotechnology and genetic engineering: contained use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), deliberate release of GMOs into the environment, the placing on the market of products that contain GMOs and the application of biotechnology in human medicine, such as gene analysis and gene therapy.
 

GEN-AU Genome Research in Austria

In 2001 the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture invited tenders for the 'Austrian Genome Research Programme GEN-AU' (GENome Research in AUstria), a 'programme of the future' for Austria. This programme which now started is based on the good foundations that genome research has got in Austria. It will strengthen, focus and integrate research capacities.
