Minister Day applauds law enforcement agencies in two separate drug seizures

October 18, 2006 -- Today, the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, released this statement following the seizure of drugs and charges laid in two separate incidents last week.

Charges were laid against 16 individuals in Ontario and nine individuals in the United States for allegedly distributing ecstasy tablets from Toronto to Windsor, Ontario and then across the US/Canada border. These charges follow a six month joint investigation by the RCMP and the Drug Enforcement Administration in Michigan along with assistance from the Canada Border Services Agency and the Sterling Heights Police Department.

An individual was charged with trafficking in cocaine and ecstasy, following a routine vehicle inspection by the RCMP Roving Traffic Unit near Headingly, Manitoba.  The value of this seizure is conservatively estimated at between two and five million dollars.
