 Shining Bright: NRC Earn Awards

Ottawa's economic development agency recently honoured the city's best and brightest during their annual Awards gala. Three of the twelve categories were scooped by people or groups with strong NRC connections – the Technology Partnership Award, Best Financial Deal Award and the NCIT "Under 40" Award.

A relatively new instrument at NRC-ICPET is a Bruker-AXS D8 Discover GADDS system, an X-ray diffraction instrument that can perform very fast analyses on polymer and other materials. Dr. Whitfield also uses this instrument for micro-diffraction, using very small samples.

 Collaborating On "Next Generation" Fuel Cells

The pressure to develop cleaner, more efficient single sources of energy is the driving force behind the development of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) at NRC and elsewhere. If SOFCs are to become commercially viable, production costs must be lower and the reliability, as well as durability of these systems needs improvement.
