Calibration Laboratory Assessment Service (CLAS)

CLAS Fees

The NRC/CLAS program and the SCC/PALCAN program operate in close cooperation and in accordance with SCC-NRC Agreement of Collaboration. When CLAS receives an application and the application fee, a preliminary analysis of the application is made. The laboratory is provided with an estimate of the assessment cost and annual fees for a period of two years. The fees are determined according to the following schedule.

Notes to CLAS Fee Schedule

  1. The Annual Program Fee for Joint Testing/Calibration Laboratories
    (A33-00-08-02) is applicable to a laboratory accredited for testing and calibration services. This fee is collected by CLAS.
  2. The quality system assessment of a joint testing and calibration laboratory is performed by SCC or its delegated Partner (other than CLAS). SCC or its delegated Partner collects the fees applicable to that service. For the evaluation of a quality system, the fees may be different from the CLAS fees.
  3. On-site quality system and technical assessments are carried out:
    a) prior to CLAS certification & SCC accreditation, then;
    b) one year after CLAS certification and SCC accreditation, then every two years thereafter.
  4. Annual program fees are derived by averaging the costs of certification/accreditation services over a two year cycle.
  5. An on-site quality system assessment typically requires two days. Technical assessment duration depends upon the number of measurement capabilities to be assessed. Assessments may require several measurement experts. Duration of on-site assessments is typically one day per assessor.
  6. Expenses not listed in the above schedule require prior approval by the client laboratory.
  7. Laboratories that offer commercial calibration services (i.e. to external clients) are eligible for a discount on certain fees.
