We
want Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to be more familiar with
the setup of our health system. We'd also like you to have direct
access to information on health services in your own region.
That is why we've put together this guide.
OUR
HEALTH AND COMMUNITY SERVICES SYSTEM
Our
health and community services system is made up of 14 health
boards. These boards oversee the delivery of services in the
various regions of our province. About half of out boards are
responsible for hospital and nursing home services and the other
half are responsible for community health services like child
welfare. In two cases, the institutional and community boards
have combined to become integrated boards. There is also a provincial
board for cancer services and a regional board for nursing homes,
both in St. John's.
The Department of Health and Community Services provides funding
for the boards, as well as policy direction and monitoring of
programs and services.
USING
THE GUIDE
The
guide is divided into regions, so that if you reference the
Central Region, for example, you will see information of the
Central West Health Corporation (headquartered in Grand Falls-Windsor),
Central East Health Care Institutions Board and Health and Community
Services Central (both headquartered in Gander).
|
|
There
are six regions: Capital, Eastern, Central, Western, Grenfell
and Labrador.
