Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Society of Quebec

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is known in France as Charcot's Disease, after the neurologist who first described it 130 years ago, and in America as Lou Gehrig's Disease, after the baseball player who died of it in the 1940s. It is a rapidly progressing, neuromuscular illness that is always fatal.

The ALS Society of Canada - Lou Gehrig's Disease

ALS, known as Lou Gehrig's Disease (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), is the most common form of motor neuron disease. It is a progressive and ultimately fatal neuromuscular disease. The ALS Society of Canada, a national voluntary organization, is committed to: supporting research towards a cure for ALS, supporting ALS Partners in their provision of quality care for persons affected by ALS.
