Fifth disease is an infection which, in children, often appears as a bright red rash on the face. It is sometimes called slapped face disease. Adults may experience joint pain. Fifth disease is caused by a virus called parvovirus B19.

Fifth Disease - Ontario

Fifth disease, or erythema infectiosum, is an infection of the respiratory system that is caused by a human parvovirus. It is usually mild but can be serious in children who have other medical problems including hemolytic disease, sickle cell disease or spherocytosis.
