What is Eczema? Eczema Society of Canada

Eczema is a persistent, itchy skin condition consisting of skin dryness and inflammation (manifested by redness of the skin, crusting and thickening of the skin). It typically starts within the first 2 years of life and tends to have a waxing and waning course. Acute episodes are called "flare-ups". Flare-ups are unpredictable in terms of timing and potential triggers.
