Offers resources with statistical information on health indicators, determinants of health and other statistics that provide information on the health of Canadians.
The Health Services Access Survey (HSAS) gathers comprehensive and comparable information on the patterns of use of health care services and self-reported difficulties faced by Canadians aged 15 and over in accessing health care. Data are presented for Canada as a whole and by province when sample sizes are sufficient. Data on waiting times for specialized services such as specialist visits for a new illness or condition, non-emergency surgeries and selected diagnostics tests are also presented.

Mental Health and Well-being, from the 2002 Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) provides cross-sectional estimates at provincial and national levels. Topics include the prevalence of various mental disorders (depression, mania, panic disorder, agoraphobia, social phobia), mental health problems (alcohol and illicit drug dependence, gambling, suicide, eating trouble) and access to and use of mental health care services in the past 12 months. The survey also collects information on many determinants and correlates of mental health such as socio-demographic information, income, stress, medication use and social support. Data were collected from close to 37,000 respondents, aged 15 or older, residing in households in each province.

This product presents statistical tables showing the numbers and rates of death by marital status, age and sex; infant, neonatal, post-neonatal and perinatal deaths; and stillbirths of at least twenty-eight weeks of gestation at the time of birth. Since 1999, Statistics Canada and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) have reported collaboratively on health issues in Canada - Statistics Canada on the health of the population, and CIHI on the performance of the health care system. The Statistics Canada series of reports, How Healthy Are Canadians?, addresses a different theme each year. The first report focused on health status and the use of health care services over the life cycle. The second edition looked at health differences between men and women, and the third, health in communities.

The Viral Respiratory Diseases Section produces weekly or biweekly FluWatch reports, summarizing influenza surveillance activities in Canada. Weekly reports are produced during the influenza season (October - May) and biweekly reports are produced during the off season (June - September)

Throughout 2004, in face-to-face interviews, over 35,000 people were asked to recall what they had eaten during the previous 24 hours. The survey also asked when they ate breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks and where the food they ate was prepared at home, in restaurants, in fast-food outlets. This report is an overview of what Canadians are eating: how many calories they consume; whether they eat the daily minimum recommended number of servings (Health Canada 1997) of vegetables and fruit, milk products, meat and alternatives and grain products; and what percentage of their total calories come from fat, protein and carbohydrates.
