VLOT – Very Large Optical Telescope

Canada has a share of the state-of-the-art twin 8-metre Gemini telescopes and has started to investigate even larger optical telescopes that will follow the current generation of 8–10 metre ones. We currently envisage replacing the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT), on the summit of Mauna Kea, with a 20-metre telescope.
