Canadian Gemini Science Research Associateship

NRC's Research Associate (RA) Program provides promising scientists and engineers with the opportunity to work in a challenging research environment during the early stages of their career. Applicants are selected competitively and must demonstrate the ability to perform original, high-quality research in their chosen field.

We are currently recruiting a Research Associate to work with the Head of the Canadian Gemini Office (CGO) and the two Canadian Gemini Support Astronomers in the CGO to provide pre- and post-observing support to Canadian users of the Gemini 8-m Telescopes. Approximately 60 percent of the time will be spent on a vigorous program of independent research in optical astronomy.

This position requires a Ph.D. in astronomy/astrophysics plus: observing experience with ground-based telescopes in the optical, infrared and/or mid-infrared wavelength regimes, and/or theoretical modeling and interpretation of such observational data; experience in reducing and analyzing astronomical data from ground-based observatories and a record of publishing original astronomical research papers in refereed scientific literature.

The deadline for applications is 15 November 2006. The RA will be selected by late January 2007. To be eligible, applicants must have received their Ph.D. no earlier than 2002.

We offer a highly competitive salary and benefits package.
