Mr. Bob Bowen
Director General, NRC Institute for Research in Construction
On 23 June 2005, Bob Bowen was appointed Director General of the NRC Institute for Research in Construction (NRC-IRC).
Prior to accepting this new responsibility, Bob Bowen served as the Institute's Acting Director General, Executive Director and Director of Codes and Evaluation. From 1986 to 1990, he led NRC-IRC's Building Performance Section. On joining NRC in 1980, Bob conducted research relating to building rehabilitation, urea formaldehyde foam insulation, window glazing system, and building envelopes.
After completing a B.A. Sc. in Civil Engineering at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Bob Bowen was hired by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). He worked as a CMHC engineer for municipal infrastructure, housing standards and research, and became Supervisor of CMHC's Materials Acceptance Program.
Bob Bowen is a member of the Standard Council of Canada's Advisory Committee on Standards and a former Chairman of the Inter-jurisdictional Regulatory Collaboration Committee. He is serving on the Canadian Standards Association's (CSA) Board of Directors and the CSA's Standards Policy Board, and Bob is a member of the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) and the Provincial/Territorial Policy Advisory Committee on Codes (PTPACC).
