Mr. Bernard Dumouchel

Director General, NRC Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information

Bernard Dumouchel is a career librarian and information specialist, with Bachelor's degrees in history and library science, and an M.L.S. from the University of Western Ontario's School of Library and Information Science (now the Faculty of Information and Media Studies). He began his career as a community college librarian. In 1982, he joined the Library of Parliament as Director, Technical Services Branch. In 1987, he came to the National Research Council's Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI) as Director, Resource Development. He became Director General of CISTI in 1998.

CISTI is the largest scientific, technical and medical (STM) library in North America, and the most important sci/tech publisher in Canada. As Director General, Mr. Dumouchel envisions CISTI as a world-class information powerhouse, providing information products and services for researchers and innovators in the academic, private and public sectors in Canada and elsewhere. He aims to consolidate and extend CISTI's position as a role model and world leader in STM information management by being the supplier, publisher, and service provider of choice for national and international stakeholders.
