Gilles Patry

NRC Council Member

Dr. Patry has been Rector and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ottawa since 2001. He began his professional life as a consulting engineer prior to becoming a professor of civil engineering at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal and at McMaster University. He joined the University of Ottawa as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in 1993 and became Vice-Rector (Academic) in 1997. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Davis.

Dr. Patry was appointed to NRC's Council in 2002 and reappointed for a second term in October 2005. He is a member of the Audit Committee of Council.
