Waste Biotreatability

Gaz Injection on a GCThe anaerobic digestion represents a sustainable solution to organic waste disposal by reducing the carbon pollution as well as the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), while providing energy, organic amendment and fertilizer. Anaerobic degradation pathways also represent now the most cost-effective method for bioremediation of chlorinated organics (e.g. chlorinated solvents). BRI Waste Biotreatability Unit offers complete evaluation of the anaerobic biotreatability of organic wastes (biosolids, effluents) with their energetic potential (methane, hydrogen) and of the anaerobic dechlorination potential of contaminated materials.

Service highlights
The main services of BRI Wastes Biotreatability Unit are:

  • Physico-chemical and microbiological characterization of soils, biosolids, industrial or municipal effluents, groundwater.
  • Methane, hydrogen and volatile acids potential evaluation for wastewaters or solid wastes.
  • Biological activity assessment through microcosms monitoring, with specific substances and/or radioisotopes; aerobic and anaerobic respirometry; dechlorination potential.
  • Biokinetics assessment and modelling.
  • Nutritional optimization.
  • Microbiological support for field anaerobic remediation (soil and groundwater treatment) or full-scale treatment (solid wastes or wastewaters).
  • Technology evaluation and assessment: proof of concept and performance.
  • Evaluation and optimization of anaerobic digestion in batch or continuous reactors for solid wastes or wastewaters.
