Frequently asked questions

How do I apply for a job with the Coast Guard?

The Canadian Coast Guard is a civilian marine organization within the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans. As such all non-professional categories are hired through your local Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) Centres.

Professional categories, Navigators, Engineers, Pilots and Logistics Officers are normally recruited and trained at the Canadian Coast Guard College in Sydney Nova Scotia.

You can obtain more information on the CCG Officer Training Program from this address:

Where can I find an email address for a friend/family who works on one of your ships?

Without the express permission of the person in question we do not forward e-mail addresses to the general public. In many instances there are no "personal" e-mail addresses for individuals onboard our ships. Many ships are on the lay-day manning system and have two people occupying one position. The e-mail address is normally allotted to the position not the individual.

Also in many cases the ships access their email via dial up network connection and a modem. As you can imagine at times there may be a lot of e-mail correspondence that transpires between the ship and shore for official purposes. In order to ensure that this use of e-mail is effective and efficient for business purposes personal e-mail is discouraged.

We recommend contacting the person by conventional means, correspondence or phone, and request their e-mail address personally.
