Recruitment

At the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT), we know that our success will come from bringing together the best people (P) in the best facilities (ƒ) with the best equipment (Eq).

P: Our staff currently numbers 80 researchers and technical officers, and will grow to more than 200. What we need are the best people. Over the next two years, dozens of new researchers and technical support staff will join our staff through a variety of arrangements. Some will be full time with the National Research Council; some will be jointly recruited by the NRC and our partner the University of Alberta; and others will come on board for specific projects.

F2: The National Research Council and the University of Alberta have combined resources to give our researchers access to one of the best assortments of research tools in the world. In a few months, NINT will be moving into a state-of-the-art facility. It will house the 'quietest' lab space in Canada, the best collection of microscopy and surface science equipment in the country, and Class 1000 clean room space. Our researchers also have access to a wide range of facilities at the University of Alberta, including a NanoFab, the Surface Engineering and Science Centre, and an 800 MHz NMR at National High Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Centre.

Eq: Our researchers will be equipped with the latest in electron microscopy and surface science instrumentation, including Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), Small Angle Scattering Spectrometer (SAXS) and X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), and Scanning Probe Microscopes. The budget for microscopy and other equipment is more than $40 million over five years.
