New Infrared and Terahertz Devices
New Infrared and Terahertz Devices
Infrared devices are used today for a lot more than point-and-click TV remote controls. NRC researchers in the Quantum Device group are inventing powerful new infrared and terahertz devices that are more useful and less expensive than existing ones. Here a scientist examines an experiment involving an NRC thermal infrared imaging system. These systems are able to detect the electromagnetic radiation of heat emitted by all hot objects, including gases. Infrared devices are used in earth observing, weather forecasting and search and rescue.
