The CAVE
NRC scientists provide a unique 3D view of a CT scan of an Egyptian mummy's skeleton in a CAVE – a Computer Augmented Virtual Environment. The system uses a powerful computer system, advanced imaging software, projectors, and screens to produce a 3D image. Viewers wear special goggles (on person, left) whose left and right lenses alternately open-and-close 120-times a second to create a 3D perspective. The displayed image shifts with the viewer's gaze via magnetic sensors on the goggles. The CAVE is extensively used for design verification and virtual prototyping by Canadian manufacturers. |
