Prototype Lifeboat for Harsh Environments
Prototype Lifeboat for Harsh Environments
Using data from research conducted by NRC, a Newfoundland-based company is working on a new design for lifeboats that operate in harsh environments such as the North Atlantic. Their objective is to ensure survival of evacuees in extreme weather and sea conditions. NRC serves as a mentor and incubator for Canadian ocean technology through access to world-class test facilities and expert advice from its researchers. This is the second time Mad Rock Marine Solutions Inc. has used NRC's incubator – the first involved the development of a mechanism for the quick and safe release of lifeboats from ships or offshore platforms.
