Towing Tank
Towing Tank
How seaworthy will a new ship be? Test a model of it in the Towing Tank in St. John's Newfoundland. The tank is a 200-metre-long scientific wave pool that enables scientists to predict a vessel's behaviour and operational requirements, such as its propulsion needs, before it leaves dry docks. Scale models of vessels, including this one of a Canadian Forces naval frigate, (in yellow), are attached to a towing carriage which monitors the ship's performance under various sea conditions.
