CISTI, the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information, is one of the world's major sources for scientific, technical and medical information. The unique effectiveness of CISTI's Document Delivery Service makes it one of the fastest and most reliable services of its kind. CISTI's clientele is essentially made up of scientists of the academic, public and private sectors.
CISTI's headquarters in Ottawa houses one of the world's most comprehensive collections of publications in science, technology and medicine in North America, with over 50,000 serial titles and over 800,000 books, conference proceedings and technical reports. CISTI's services are provided across Canada through its national network of NRC Information Centres.
NRC Research Press is CISTI's publishing arm, with 16 international journals of research plus monographs and conference proceedings.
CISTI began more than 75 years ago as the "Library of the National Research Council of Canada," the leading agency for R&D in Canada, and became the "National Science Library" in 1957. The change to CISTI came in 1974 to reflect the wide scope of services provided and the increasing role in the development of electronic information products and services for the scientific and technological community.
