The many faces of family violence

Family Violence Initiative

Research

The Department of Justice Canada is actively involved in producing social science research and statistical services for the Family Violence Initiative. This research is used to support policy development in the area of family violence to:

  • increase understanding of family violence issues
  • increase knowledge on effective interventions related to the prevention and reduction of family violence
  • inform policy analysis, development and decision making

Justice Canada's role is to:

  • support research studies on family violence
  • conduct and support research on applying the criminal law in cases of family violence
  • collect data and analyze survey results
  • generate and distribute research and statistical reports on family violence
  • conduct environmental scans on family violence
  • work with the Centre for Justice Statistics, Statistics Canada on survey design, collection and analysis of national survey data on family violence

Research Projects on Family Violence

Justice Canada has produced a range of research products on family violence, including research reports, statistical reports and fact sheets.
